Iraqi troops have cut the power from the privately owned Al-Baghdadiya television channel after it broadcast the demands of militants who took hostages in a weekend attack in which 46 people died, the broadcaster has claimed.

"Our channel has been surrounded by security forces who have cut off the mains supply and closed down our generator," the presenter of a current affairs programme dramatically told viewers before the screen went black.
"We are not worried because we have done nothing wrong and if any of us gets arrested, the truth will come out," the presenter said.
Broadcasting was only interrupted for around 15 minutes, but when transmission resumed it appeared to be from outside Iraq.
"Our staff refused to leave their workplace or to hand the building over to the security forces," a message on the Cairo-based channel's screen boasted.
