About the Artists

June 12-14th

Mohammad Shoaib Ali: Shoaib, of Pakistani descent, was born in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates on the 21st of January 1985. He shifted between several schools having studied at Ibn Seena English High School and transferring to a Pakistani School where he did engineering. Shoaib is currently studying Marketing at the University of Wollongong Dubai. His inspirations come from everything around him, he captures his pleasure of observing through his art.

June 19-21st

Karen Parody: is a freelance artist and designer and has gained a BA (Hons) degree and MA that covers the areas fashion, textiles and surface design. She has exhibited in numerous prestigious exhibitions throughout the UK and abroad. Karen re-located to Dubai in 2001 and has successfully continued a career as an artist.

Karen's work concentrates on creating abstract surfaces through a variety of mixed media. Her inspiration originates from sources such as architecture, order and chaos and abstract images found in nature and captured through photography.

The decorative surfaces consist of materials such as wood, resin, silks, plastics, canvas, wires, waxes and inks. She is interested in the qualities involved in the creation and destruction of surfaces - regularity and irregularity, distortions of depth and surface through the use of transparency and translucency and the relationship between minimal form and complex surface texture. Karen works closely with designers to produce artwork that can be incorporated into the architectural features of a space and be displayed in innovative ways.

The work focuses on colour and texture and enhancing the interior of a space. Karen has successfully gained commissions to produce artwork for offices, bars, restaurants, hotels, nightclubs palaces, private villas and numerous exclusive hotels such as The Fairmont Dubai, Kempinsky Kuwait, Abu Dhabi Beach Rotana, Sheraton Abu Dhabi and Traders Hotel Dubai. She has also worked on numerous office projects at Knowledge Village, DIC, DMC and DIFC and show apartments for projects such as Jumierah Beach Residence, Damac and Dubai Festival City.

June 26-28th

JH Dunker - Born in The Hague, Holland, in 1945, Johannes Hendrik Donker (known as Hans) currently lives with his wife in the breathtaking Skeepoort valley in South Africa. His creative talents extend well beyond painting, with a passion for architecture and design reflected in the inspired houses he has built and his unique hand-crafted wooden furniture. His keen eye for detail sees beauty in the most obscure places and he will often find a source of inspiration in junk stores and demolition sites.

Hans has developed his fine art skills over recent years without any formal training. Influenced in his earlier years by Matisse, Picasso, Miro and others, he is slowly carving out a unique multi-faceted style of his own. His expressive use of colours capture the viewer's attention but the true appreciation of each painting is something that develops with each time they are seen as the hidden details are revealed.

Easy on the eye, his paintings cover a range of subjects from still life, landscapes to nude studies - each a unique representation of the artist's vision expressed through the medium of oil on canvas.
