The Third Line, Doha

The Third Line is excited to announce the opening of a second gallery space in Doha, Qatar. Throughout the Middle East, Qatar has long been recognised for its dedication to the development of arts and culture. The Third Line, Doha hopes to use this as a basis to support and give a wider platform to the artists that it currently represents. The Third Line, Doha will be housed within the walls of the renovated Souq Waqif, located in the new cultural and creative hub in Doha.

The Souq Waqif was reconstructed in 2004 under the guidance and vision of the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The conversion was successfully completed based upon extensive studies of traditional Qatari architectural techniques and modelled off of photographs from the 1940s and 50s as well as artist illustrations based on verbal descriptions of the original souq.

In an effort to preserve Qatar's historical heritage and Middle Eastern artistic traditions, the centre houses a variety of galleries and workshops that showcase the arts, including: a bookstore, an art supplies store, a jewellery and photographic gallery, an art consulting company, an interior design gallery and a fashion boutique.

From the Islamic Museum to the Arab Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Qatar has many established art institutions with impressive collections of Middle Eastern art. The Third Line, Doha hopes to develop links to these institutions and maximise the exposure of the thirty artists that it currently represents throughout the region.

Internationally recognised photographer Youssef Nabil will hold the debut opening exhibition Youssef Nabil Portraits at The Third Line, Doha, running from May 8 - July 1, 2008.
