Dubai Drama Group takes on Pratchett’s Guards! Guards!

Performed at Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre on December 14^th, 15^th

Guards! Guards! is an epic story of treachery, romance, danger, political intrigue, not to mention a six foot dwarf and an orangutan. When the citizens of Ankh-Morpork are terrorized by a dragon, there's nothing they, their devious ruler, the thieves guild, the secret societies, or the wizards of the unseen university can do about it. It's up to Captain Vimes and his rag-tag City Watch to do what they haven't done in a long, long time: their jobs. Along the way they enlist the help of a passionate yet eccentric lady of nobility, a three foot pet swamp dragon, and a librarian that has been transformed by a magical accident. Now all Vimes has to do is negotiate a city filled with witches, assassins, sordid salesman, renegade cats, mercenary warriors, and solve the mysterious appearance of a sixty foot fire-breathing dragon. Comedy combined with the unlikely bedfellows of fantasy and drama to create a hilarious and unorthodox theatrical event.

This 14^th and 15^th of December, Dubai Drama Group, Dubai's own feisty theatrical society, which brought us the timeless romance of "Romeo and Juliet" and the drawing room satire of "The Importance of Being Earnest," is staging Stephen Briggs' stage adaptation of Terry Pratchett's "Guards! Guards!". With a crew of twenty people and a cast of nearly forty, this is the DDG's most bold and ambitious undertaking to date. The Dubai Community Theater will come alive with a host of colourful characters, a slew of special effects, and a ménage of slapstick comedy, pulse-stopping action, and the bring-tears-to-you-eyes funny dialogue that millions have come to expect from Terry Pratchett.

Pratchett, who was granted the dubious honor of being WH Smith's most shop-lifted writer, is England's best-selling living author. His works of incisive parody have universal appeal and have been translated into 26 languages. He is known to enliven his comic novels with pop cultural references, traditional literary drama, as well as the occasional morality tale. "Guards! Guards!' is one of his most popular books and has been previously performed throughout Europe and Australia. This production in the Dubai Community Theater in the Mall of the Emirates will be its Middle Eastern debut. Tickets are priced at a rock bottom AED 50, with special discounts for school groups.

The show will be performed in the Centrepoint theatre, at the Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre (DUCTAC) in the Mall of the Emirates. There will be four shows on Friday, 14^th and Saturday 15^th of December: a matinee performance at 2:30pm and an evening performance at 6:30pm.
