Atlantis on the Palm development in Dubai is a $1.5 billion resort development and one of the most popular destinations for tourists visiting the Emirate. Located at the very end of the Dubai Palm Jumeriah development its hosts an impressive array of shops, nightlife, bars and is home to a water park and one of the largest aquariums in the world. Just like its sister property in the Bahamas, Dubai’s Atlantis features the Atlantis Hotel, two massive towers linked with an Arch, the hotel has over 1500 rooms and suites available for booking through tour operators.
Since the Atlantis opened in November 2008 care of a Kylie Minogue grand opening ceremony it hasn’t been all smiles for the operator that attracted controversy when it took custardy of Sammy a whale shark who was “rescued” from the waters of the gulf and quickly became the star attraction at the Atlantis Hotel on Dubai’s man-made Palm Island.
However, the whale shark soon became a cause célèbre for local environmentalists and even former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson leading to Sammy being released. Atlantis is a joint development between Kerzner International and Dubai Government owned company Istithmar.
Atlantis Hotel Accommodation
Atlantis offers 1,373 guestrooms and 166 suites, all with views of the Arabian Gulf or the Palm Jumeirah, rooms are plush to say the very least. Location – You can fly into Dubai or Abu Dhabi, Dubai Airport is 37 km away and will cost you around 100 AED in a taxi at the time of writing, the journey time is around 30 minutes during quiet times up to an hour during rush hour. There are always cabs outside Dubai aiport, ensure you get in one licenced by the RTA and not a private hire. All licenced cabs will have an RTA logo on the side in red and black. Arriving from Abu Dhabi is a bit more of a trek – expect a journey time in excess of 90 minutes and a taxi cost of around 300 AED. * Prices as per 2010.

If you like to eat in style then the Atlantis is for you, beware however the resteraunts are at the top end of the food chain where your wallet is concerned. You will certainly save some money by stepping out of the Atlantis every couple of nights, however the food is worth what you pay for it with some international high end brand names available to Tantalise your taste buds.

The Palm Atlantis Shopping
Shoppers at the Palm Atlantis will not be at all disappointed, the hotel offers a wide range of upmarket boutiques that include Cartier, Chopard, Lacoste, Villa Moda. Harry Winston, Levant and Tiffany & Co to name just a few.
As a world leading resort you will find high quality leisure facilities with a multitude of activities, events and things to do for both adults and children.
Aquaventure is 17 hectare water park with more than 2 kilometres of river rides at varying speeds of flow, add to this a massive 30.5 M high tower called the Ziffurat that allows you to slide down through a lagoon, one of the largest private beaches in Dubai with almost 1km of beach front and a children’s supervised play area.
The Atlantis Dubai Spa is well reknowned as one of the most upmarket destinations in Dubai with 27 treatment rooms offering everything from chocolate wraps to mud spa’s compliemented by a state of the art fitness centre with every machine you could ever require to tone your flabby bits.
The ability to swim with trained dolphins at the Atlantis aqua park is available to guests although be aware it isn’t cheap! However swimming with dolphins never is I guess so if it breaks your budget you will have to be content to stare at the marine life in one of the worlds largest aquariums.
For the sporty among you there are four tennis courts, swimming pools, a running track and access to sports including scuba diving, deep sea fishing and some of the worlds best golf courses are less than a 25 minute taxi drive away.
Outside of Atlantis
Of course on the basis that you will be stepping out of Atalantis at some point during your trip we would like to recommend these places to eat outside of the resort but at the same time all within 10-15 minutes cab ride
Drinks – The Radisson SAS Hotel Media City Rooftop bar, Budda Bar, Dubai Marina Yacht Club, Trader Vics at JBR, Bar 44 and of course Barasti Bar – all available just off the plam and providing you with a great night out.
Eating Out – May we suggest the Hilton at JBR Argentinean restaurant, on the cheaper side try Maria Bonnitas Mexican just off of Al Wasl Road for a cheap date but with good food for the price, get into the Bur Dubai area and make sure you check out Ravis resteraunt – The plastic chairs will be a bit of a come down from The Atlantis on the Palm Jumeriah but you can be assured of a gastronomic treat.
