DEMC will bring to life the paved alleyways of the Al Bastakiya quarter through hosting over 50 vendors every Saturday, starting from the week of 20 December. Open from 10.00am until sunset, the market will serve as a pivotal destination drawing visitors to dedicate a day out and experience its range of shopping and leisure options in an integrated family-friendly environment. Offering a spectrum of fashion designs, locally made accessories, antiques along with arts and craft products, the Al Bastakiya quarter will be transformed into a vibrant district through aesthetically demarcated colour-coded streets, each featuring distinctive stripes of fabrics along the walkways and stalls to typify a specific zone in the market. A dedicated children’s area including a play house featuring a line-up of fun activities will serve to enhance the entertainment quotient of the venue, while valet parking services will provide added convenience to visitors. Adding to the appeal of ‘Souq Al Bastakiya’ will be a constant resonance of live music performance at the premises that will serve as an inspiration for visitors to enjoy more of the venue’s authentic ambience. Mustafa Al Hashimi, Project Director, Al Bastakiya, said: “Our objective in hosting ‘Souq Al Bastakiya’ is to revive the magic and buzz of a neighbourhood that is strongly evocative of our past. Through a packed agenda of activities, the weekly market will offer an enchanting type of cultural experience. Alongside serving as a stage for young artists to showcase their talents, it will help the community retain its bond with the heritage and soul of Dubai, engaging families to be part of the unique cultural attraction in the emirate.” ‘Souq Al Bastakiya’ will additionally include a courtyard-styled café - ’The Souq Café’ - that will remain open every Friday and Saturday from 10.00am to 11.00pm, reverberating with musicians and live acts by caricature artists. The market will become a key fixture in Dubai’s calendar at the ‘Al Bastakiya’ district, which is currently being revived by Dubai Event Management Corporation as a modern cultural platform for the arts and culture. Designed to serve as the perfect platform to mirror Dubai's rich heritage, Al Bastakiya is set to emerge as a cultural hub, featuring venues for the arts and culture to host events, festivals and activities. Al Bastakiya currently houses galleries, cafes and restaurants, studios and workshops for resident artists, in addition to a mix of concept and designer outlets and boutique hotels. Launched to position Dubai as a unique cultural hub on both the regional and international level, the Dubai Event Management Corporation aims to manage and organize world class events.
