The stories are narrated within a complex symbolic setting, but still remain innocent at the same time. The painter is developing a strategy that goes beyond Philip Guston’s approach, yet appreciates the content and form in a subtle manner. Currently residing in London, which had a heavy influence on this collection, the 30-year-old Massoumi has a poetic vision that inspires nothing but hope. Dates: Jan 20 – Feb 20 2008 About Carbon 12: Carbon 12 was founded in 2008 as a platform for international artistic exchange, enabling artists and art lovers from all around the world to meet in the fantastic city of Dubai. Carbon 12 is the city’s first truly international art space, with an exciting programme of emerging as well as established artists. The gallery’s owners have a young, fresh and dynamic approach to modern art. Their mission is to bring a colourful variety of international movements and styles with one common point: contemporary art at its best. Carbon 12 represents both newly-discovered artists and internationally recognised names whose works already hang in museums. The chic minimalism of the art space, which is located in Dubai Marina, is the ideal environment for showcasing the unique works that the curators have chosen to bring to Dubai. Carbon 12 will host ten exhibitions a year, opening each one with a “vernissage”. For most exhibitions the artists will be present at the opening event.

You have to twist your mind to understand the paintings of Iranian
Artist Alireza Massoumi. A grey urban
jungle collides with a turquoise sky: colours so crisp that the contrast is
stronger than black and white. Each
Painting is like a cartoon, a frame inside a frame: a letter from a
post-globalised world.
