FELINE FRIENDS

Feline Friends, a wholly volunteer-run group, has worked tirelessly for over 15 years to help the homeless cats of Dubai.

Their volunteer foster carers have taken into their own homes thousands of sick and abandoned cats and kittens and, once fit and healthy, re-homed them, giving the cats a new chance in life and bringing the pleasure of pet ownership to hundreds of families.

A large focus is also placed on helping control the feral cat population in the UAE. Feline Friends has a full-time trapper and vehicle - sponsored by the World Society for Animal Protection - which concentrates on trapping, sterilising then re-releasing feral cats. The group is delighted to say it has almost reached its target for the year of sterilising one thousand cats.

Today, Feline Friends is busier than ever and as a result faces the enormous challenge of meeting their ever-increasing running costs and veterinary bills entirely through fund-raising activities conducted by their volunteers.

Feline Friends urgently needs business sponsorship to help them continue their much-needed work as Dubai continues to grow. They also need more new volunteers to help with fundraising and a variety of other roles, more foster carers to temporarily house the cats until new homes can be found, and most of all they need kind people who can adopt these wonderful, loving cats and kittens for which they constantly need to find homes.

Monthly open days are held to showcase the hopeful cats looking for a permanent new home. All the cats are friendly, litter trained, vaccinated and if over six months old, neutered as the group does not advocate breeding. No charge is made for the cats themselves, but a donation to help cover veterinary costs such as vaccinations is requested.
