Love is Selfishly Unselfish

Print E-mail

Those four words above would definitely sum up everything I would like to mention here now.

Kinda confusing, right? But is awfully quite true, well in my opinion that is.

Love has been one of the most talked about word.  It has been discussed in so many different locations and even at the oddest of most places.  You can hear it being talked about on the street, in class, bedrooms, locker rooms, offices, toilets and the list just goes on and on.

Most of the poems I made have been or in some way related to the topic of love, for love has been defined, experienced and felt differently by everyone, making it a very rich source of material and inspiration.

Love has been defined as unselfish, but I beg to disagree to a certain degree.  To me, love is a very selfish, and it seeks only to be satisfied.  Love's only desire is for it to be fulfilled.

The only thing that separates love from being perceived or defined as selfish or unselfish is the object of love.  When we love ourselves, we are not essentially considered to be selfish. It is only when our love for ourselves hurt or affect others that we are deemed to be so.

However, it is not the love of self that is mostly talked about;  it is the love of a person to another.  When love's object is not thy self, it is where the unselfishness of love's selfishness is very evident.  As I mentioned, love seeks only to be satisfied or fulfilled, and for this, love has to nothing else to do but to love, to find it's fulfillment.  Therefore when you love someone, love acts selfishly by loving or giving from itself, for to love is love's only desire.

Loving someone results in giving a part of yourself thereby an act not equal to selfishness. Since, selfishness is characterized by or manifesting concern or care only for oneself.

Loving someone results in a selfishly unselfish act.  Love only seeks to love and nothing more than that.
