MY TAKE ON…
CITY OF EMBER
I must start off by saying that this is my second first blog on LIME so instead of doing the norm on whining about a bad day or letting you in a very girly secret I decided to do something else, something different ,I am going to blog about the movie I last watched …lets just say I’m a “spare time movie critic”.
Movies have played a big part in my life and I know a blockbuster when I see one, this is entirely my opinion and my personal take on how the movie connected with me. Having a big imagination I tend to get lost in the world of the film not as a main character but as a part of the screen. Its what I call the best time ever where you don’t have to be you and you leave all your problems outside those doors.
Anywho,City of ember is what I watched again so I could clearly give you insight on what I thought of the movie. First off, for TIM ROBBINS its all about escaping/finding a way out isn’t it?! :) Shawshank redemption on my mind!!.
The main aspects of the movie that really stood out were the costumes by RUTH MEYERS the costume designer and most importantly the music by ANDREW LOCKINGTON for the music this movie has my respect. CITY OF EMBER had a lot of untapped potential, it was good but it could have been great. I’ll tell you why.
Toward the ending while in the boat LINA and her baby sister POPPY show abnormal bravery while falling down at least 20 feet .LINA screams and poppy enjoys the ride?! And the scream was pretty short.
What I’m trying to say is for 200 years ember was alive and functional and was the only home these people knew and when these kids try to escape out the see river and flowing water and huge drops for the first time and fear and excitement should show through…..blank look from LINA and a quite happy POPPY. This goes on direction. LINA needed a few more lines.
Don’t hate , that’s all for bad news. BILL MURRAY, now that’s an actor. If he plays a hateful role….man can he make us hate!! He is good at being bad, the hate wasn’t so much so all good there. Now TIM ROBBINS, amazing actor as well, he owned the role, again I wish more lines for him.
The setting , as I recall from a “behind the scenes” is a complete set built. It made a lot of sense and looked quite deprived of earthly things :)! the production designer scores big!!
My biggest happy shock was a member of the producers team, TOM HANKS!! Well I don’t know if its HIM him or just another guy with the same name, I got to say he is my favorite actor. Quite disappointing that it didn’t get much hype nor did it make its release known by releasing trailers a month early to promote it. All in all this was a good movie I would rate it a 6/10.
A six because greater movies all always going to come!
Until next time.
