A few months ago Jennifer Syddall contacted Dubai Lime to help her promote a party. Upon learning that her party is not the usual party in town, Dubai Lime was interested to understand exactly what encourages Jennifer to passionately do all the logisctics and organisations for the event. Here's an interview with Jennifer Syddall, the woman behind "The Passionately Pink Party" in Dubai.
How long you been living in Dubai? -I have been in the land of sand for 3 and half years. Where you from originally? -That great place they call Manchester in the UK. Aside from promoting the Cancer awareness, what do you do for a living? -I am an airline stewardess. What are your favourite things to do on your spare time? - Burn the candle at both ends :-). The story: - WWhat is the story behind you promoting and organizing the – The Passionately Pink Party? -As I write about my Nana, I find it hard to hold back the tears, she really was my best friend. My Nana known as Lily, although an old woman was the wisest and funniest person I knew of her time. I miss so her much. The feel of her old skin when her arms were around me or she was holding my hand is what I miss the most. It’s because I had so much emotional energy I decided to place it into doing some beneficial and something for her. I decided to raise money for the Safe and Sound Charity for Breast cancer here in the UAE and also help people realise where to get help and support in an atmosphere comfortable and recognisable for young socialites within the UAE. Wh What do you think – why people need to be aware of cancer? -During our lifetime, one in every three of us will be diagnosed with cancer. For women, breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and over 41,000 women are diagnosed each year in the UK alone as well as about 300 men. The number of people worldwide living with cancer today: 24.6 millio. Number of people worldwide killed by cancer in 2002: 6.7 million . Proportion of cancer deaths worldwide caused by tobacco, diet and infection: 43%. Relative increase in the number of annual cancer cases expected by 2025, as a result of the world’s ageing population: 50%. I think they say it all. Do you think Dubai needs to organize more of different activities for cancer awareness? - I think there are a lot of fantastic organisations out there that do fabulous things regarding cancer, I hear organizations about breast cancer but not really anymore than that! I think cancer within the UAE needs more publicity. Especially lung cancer and cancer that occurs in men as well. AnyAnything that you may add or your word of encouragement to those people who have friends and family members that suffer cancer. - Talk about it. Put your energy into something and make a difference. It's not just the person with cancer that sufffers, to an extent, its also the people around them too.
