Welcome to the Dubai Lime user guide. This guide should help to make your experience using Dubai Lime even more awesome. It is your community so we want to make sure you get the most out of it, here are some pointers that will help you on your way.
Dubai Lime is a social community platform just like Facebook, Myspace, or Friendster the difference is that Dubai Lime is restricted to the Dubai community, so consider it as Dubai’s mini version of Facebook. It is not a replacement for your existing Facebook account, consider it as an addition to your social media portfolio. A bit like your local newspaper, but online, and super cool.
There is no catch – Dubai Lime is 100% free for people based in Dubai. There are no membership fees, there is no paid content and there is no paying for features and functions. Dubai Lime is paid for by corporate advertisers that take out display advertising on relevant web pages, so effectively its supported by local businesses.
We will never sell, swop or lend out your user data. There is a full privacy notice on the footer of the website that explains what information our system holds about you. Just like facebook you also have your own privacy settings. You can find these by logging into your account and then going to the COMMUNITY menu. Then under the PROFILE tab you can manage your privacy options which includes limiting public access to profiles, blocking users and managing the message notifications you get. Unlike Facebook you can delete your profile at ANY time.
Dubai Lime has an agenda; very loosely it is as follows:
Provide a forum for people in Dubai to meet, organise group meetings, sports events, discuss and share information relevant to their life in Dubai. Our aim is to facilitate people in Dubai with information sharing, an addition to our digital economy.
Promote positive aspects of Dubai Life to the outside world; promote Dubai as a business and a tourist destination helping generate millions of dollars of revenue for local businesses in Dubai.
If you have a Facebook account right now you simply press the blue Connect with Facebook button on the top right of the page and follow the instructions. If you do not have a Facebook account then you simply click on the register button and complete the form. When you have finished Dubai Lime will send a confirmation email to your mail box, so please check your junk mail in case it goes there. Click on the link and that’s it you are a confirmed limer.
Dubai Lime is for people, its not for promoting businesses for free. We are very tough on people that spam the system or our users with useless information, so if you are a corporate marketing executive please view our advertising guides under the CLASSIFIEDS tab.
Individuals can post classifieds for free, you can also respond to classifieds. Car garages and property companies can also list their inventory on the classifieds for free. Companies can post one corporate advertisement if they are based in the UAE. Classifieds are split into sections just like your local newspaper. To post a classifieds to go CLASSIFIEDS – POST A CLASSIFIED. You manage your classifieds by going to COMMUNITY – MY CLASSIFIEDS.
You can create groups for your company, your sports team, your club, your interest group. Just like Facebook you can send messages to people within your group, you can also post bulletins and start discussions within the group. You create a new group by going to COMMUNITY – APPLICATIONS – GROUPS - CREATE GROUP (right of page). Your group will be checked to ensure its appropriate and will then be published to the community. You can have private or public groups – its up to you!
You can manage your profile under the COMMUNITY – PROFILE Tab. Update your details, only other members can see your user name and the “About Me” details. If you are in business in Dubai you may want people to find you, if not you can set your profile to only be seen by your friends or no one using the privacy settings. The choice is yours.
Dubai Lime contains a fully functional forums function with thousands of Dubai based conversation threads going on. To view them simply go to COMMUNITY – FORUMS and post as you require. Forum posts are moderated so please do not post offensive materials. Never buy products or send any money to anyone offering products to sell on these forums. Normally these posts will be deleted by moderators.
If you have news, a press release or a storey you would like us to publish simply press the SEND NEWS button on the front page of the website.
Dubai Lime contains a full photo gallery function, you can upload your Dubai Photographs to the community and set them to be seen by you only, you and your friends or the whole community. Go to COMMUNITY – APPLICATIONS - PHOTOS
You can upload videos to the Dubai Lime TV System – Go to COMMUNITY – APPLICATIONS – VIDEOS. When approved your videos will be posted.
You can message other Dubai Limers without giving them your full email address, simply go to COMMUNITY – APPLICATIONS - MESSAGES
Find new friends that have the same interests, use the community to chat with other members. Go to COMMUNITY – MEMBERS – SEARCH
You can watch all of the Videos on the Dubai Lime community for free! Simply go to LIMERS TV
Update your personal status to let others know what you are up to COMMUNITY – PROFILE – and post your status in the status box and post enter.
You can add any of the Dubai Lime pages to your bookmarking systems by pressing the bookmarking items on the footer of each article. The Dubai Lime toolbar will also allow you to Tweet, Like or Share any item of content with your popular social media platforms.
On the footer menu there is a Live Chat option – Simply press JOIN CHAT and login with your Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo or GMAIL account to start chatting.
Create and promote your Dubai based event, and promote it to other users. Simply go to COMMUNITY – APPLICATIONS – EVENTS – CREATE. Other members can let you know if they are attending the event.

You can write in your own Dubai Lime blog by simply visiting COMMUNITY – POST TO BLOG. Blog posts are moderated before publishing. You can manage and edit your blog posts
Rules are posted for classified posting, terms of service and content posting to the community and can be viewed on the footer menu.
Never ever send money by western union or equivalent for products that may be advertised on Dubai Lime. Be aware of scams for cheap mobile phone ( Never send a deposit for a mobile phone and never buy outside of the UAE)s, pets, confidence scams (over friendly females) electronic equipment and anything else that looks suspicious. If it looks too good to be true it probably is – report that spammer and we will deal with them.
