The Sportback, the Coupé and the Cabriolet models now feature cutting-edge technologies which make them even more efficient, sporty and powerful and all are selling well in Dubai UAE.
Audi has revised the front and rear styling and added new color options to the interior of the A5 and S5 for the 2012 model year. The biggest change is the redesigned light fixtures with optionally available xenon technology. The lights accent a more chiseled and edgey front apron and grille. Out back are new taillights and sharp features for the rear bumper. The redesign adds 0.04 of an inch to each of the exterior dimensions. The only engine available for the A5 is a 2.0 TFSI pushing 211 hp. The single engine option is connected to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. The S5 Coupe is now equipped with the 3.0 TFSI producing 333 hp. Compared to the 4.2-liter V-8 it replaces, the supercharged V-6 produces a tad less power but consumes on average 20 percent less fuel. Performance stats are on par with the V-8-equipped S5: 0–62 mph in 4.9 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 155 mph.
The interior features a new steering wheel with an optional "flattened ring,” more chrome around the controls, and displays illuminated in white. These changes highlight a variety of new interior colors and leather choices. The rear seats also benefit from a new five-seat option.
Audi has expanded the engine portfolio for the A5 range in the Middle East and now offers a new entry-level 1.8 TFSI multitronic, a 2.0 TFSI quattro S tronic and a 3.0 TFSI quattro S tronic for all body variants. The 3.0 TFSI generates 272hp and represents the first time Audi offers a supercharged V6 in the A5 Sportback and Cabriolet. The 2.0 TFSI A5 Cabriolet now features quattro four-wheel drive as a standard.
All the engines are turbocharged direct-injection units which provide plenty of torque; even the entry-level engine delivers 320Nm of torque. The start-stop system and the recuperation system are standard in every version. Their CO2 emissions have been reduced by up to 18 percent. The A5 Coupé sips a mere 5.8 l/100 km – which equates to 134 grams of CO2 per km – the best of any vehicle in its class.
The infotainment systems in the new A5 range have been fundamentally advanced. The latest generation of the optional MMI navigation plus, the top-of-the-range version, features a large hard-disk drive, a DVD player and a seven-inch color monitor with 3D navigation mapping. The Bluetooth online car phone (option) offers navigation via Google Earth images and a WLAN hotspot.
The A5 range has seen extensive refinements and now offers an easier entry to Audi’s design icon starting with the Audi A5 Sportback 1.8 TFSI at a base price of USD 44,899 (GCC).

The Climate Bonds Initiative

The Climate Bonds Initiative, the Clean Energy Business Council of the Middle East and North Africa and The Gulf Bond and Sukuk Association today announced they have launched a Green Sukuk Working Group. The group aims to channel market expertise to develop best practices and promote the issuance of sukuks for the financing of climate change investments and projects, such as renewable energy projects.
Green sukuks are Shari’ah compliant investment securities that finance projects meeting eligibility criteria developed by the International Climate Bond Standards scheme. The first meeting of the Green Sukuk Working Group was held last week in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Aaron Bielenberg of the Clean Energy Business Council said “There are a significant and growing number of projects, for example renewable energy in the Middle East, that are ideally suited to sukuk investors. This group will help investors more easily identify Shari’ah compliant, clean energy investment opportunities.”
Nick Silver of the Climate Bonds Initiative said “There is an urgent need to mobilize finance for both renewable energy and climate adaptation projects in both the Middle East and in other developing Muslim countries such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. Green sukuks are ideally suited for the financing of many of these investments.”
Michael Grifferty of The Gulf Bond and Sukuk Association said, “Interest in both Shari’ah compliant and ethical investing is on the rise. Green sukuks can support this trend by expanding the range of available financial instruments. Green sukuks also support national development strategies by offering longer term finance for essential infrastructure.”
The eligibility criteria in terms of climate change solutions are derived from the International Climate Bond Standards scheme, backed by a group of leading, global institutional investors and environmental Non-Government Organisations consisting of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS); the Natural Resources Defense Council; the California State Treasurers’ Office; the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC); the Carbon Disclosure Project; and the Ceres Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR).
The scheme also has an industry working group that provides input into the formulation of eligibility criteria, with participation from organizations such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Standard Poor’s, Aviva Investors (http://www.kpmg.com/) and KPMG.

DUCTAC’s alternative art platform, MinD (Made in Dubai) is returning for a third year from 14th March to 14th April 2012. This year’s exhibition, titled MinD – Dubai Contemporary, is curated by the acclaimed Emirati artist and curator Mohammed Kazem. The group art exhibition will see experimental artworks in a range of media displayed throughout the DUCTAC complex, on level 2 of Mall of the Emirates.

The MinD initiative serves to advance the cultural dialogue within Dubai by encouraging fresh thinking and opening up new ways of viewing and appreciating contemporary art in the UAE. This year’s exhibition will see the participating artists, who come from various cultural backgrounds, exhibiting work that reflects their observations and impressions of the city of Dubai.

MinD – Dubai Contemporary is made up of work by three divergent groups of artists: Emirati artists, foreign artists who have a connection to the Emirate of Dubai and finally, a group of three artists from The University of the Arts, located in Philadelphia, USA, who are visiting the UAE for the first time.

Curator Mohammed Kazem hopes that the three collections will produce an overview of the many faces of modern Dubai. Kazem said:

“The concept of MinD - Dubai Contemporary is conjured mainly from the simple philosophical notion of putting together the different visual perspectives of artists from various cultural backgrounds, who meet together and register their observations and impressions of Dubai - a city that combines a deep rooted history of Arabic and Islamic tradition with modernity and futuristic prospects.”

According to Mohammed, “Cities like Dubai impose an ever changeable question inspired by the fast rhythm of living and the convergence of sensual points of view in an interactive environment made up of multiple roots and identities. This exhibition tends to serve as a microcosm for this idea.”

Mohammed Kazem has established a leading role in the development of contemporary art in the UAE. Having worked with one of the leading cultural centres in Dubai, The Flying House, as an artist and curator from 2007 – 2011, Kazem is a former board member of the Emirates Fine Arts Society and now has his own studio and gallery space in Dubai, Empty 10. As an artist, he won the first prize for his installations at the Sharjah Biennale in 1999 and 2003. His works are part of private collections with the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha and the Sharjah Art Museum amongst other museums and private collections abroad.

The four Emirati artists featured in the exhibition are Hassan Sharif, Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim, Layla Juma, and Abdul-Rahman Al Ma'aini. Despite coming from different generations and backgrounds, the four will exhibit work that exposes their reactions to the multi-layered environment of their home nation. Exhibiting alongside them will be a group of foreign artists (Cristiana de Marchi, Jessica Mein and Nelly Massera) who either live and work in Dubai or have a connection with the Emirate.

The third group is made up of a pair of students from the Master of Fine Arts programme at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia; Corrina Celeste Mehiel and Lujin Yoon, as well as the director of the MFA programme Joe Girandola. The three artists are residing in Dubai with Mehiel and Yoon working as artists-in-residence at DUCTAC’s Gallery of Light for a month prior to the exhibition. During this time they will explore the Dubai and its way of life before registering their impressions of the city artistically.

The ten artists will display work that uses a variety of media (including video, installation, painting, printmaking and sculpture) and conceptual approaches to art making.

DUCTAC will also offer the public an opportunity to enter into an active dialogue with these artworks, and with one another, through a diverse public programme, including workshops and discussions. This programme is devised to compliment the exhibition and advance the cultural dialogue within Dubai - to encourage fresh thinking and to open up new ways of viewing and appreciating the art on display.

The entertainment industry in India, is currently riding on a wave of innovations and unique way of distributing the content to the masses. All the major names in Bollywood are tied in a cut throat competition to invent the best delivery option with an intention to make huge profits in the process. Other than the normal video medium, media houses have come up with alternate methods like mobile marketing or better known as the WAP services to increase revenue in the system.
The need to use WAP services through mobile marketing is simple. Today, users use mobile phones not only to have an easy connection with their friends and family, but also to gain information. In the busy society, consumers not only use their mobile devices to get news and information on the go but the mobile phones also serve as a handy source of entertainment. For consumers who travel long distances, download video content and stream mobile TV, WAP has become the usual method to kill time. In short, mobile marketing has become the next big thing in the digital world.
Keeping this fact in mind, the digital agency EveryMedia, has helped Dharma Productions, the leading production house owned by Karan Johar, come up with a WAP site, which means that all the latest updates, news, trivia related to Dharma will be available to the fans as they go about their daily business. Dharma fans too busy to get on the internet for updates on their favourite Bollywood brand; can get even the smallest updates on their mobile phones once they subscribe to the Dharma WAP site. They will also get details of all the Dharma movies including the synopsis, cast and crew etc. of all the movies. The updates will be exclusive to the fans since the WAP site will be the first to get updated. This is definitely a huge break and Dharma has used this breakthrough to be the pioneers in the path of innovation.
With over 2.3 billion mobile phone subscribers worldwide, the big names of Bollywood will definitely waste no time in joining the band wagon. We are sure; WAP Marketing will help Bollywood in slowly being at par with the entertainment industries of the world.

Shanghai Movie

The upcoming movie Shanghai is probably the most talked about film of the year 2012. Dibakar Banerjee, the director of the movie, has left no stones unturned to ensure that the movie surpasses all criticisms and becomes the blockbuster of the year.
Based on the movie ‘Z’ which was released in the year 1969, ‘Shanghai’ is a story on the corruption level which persists in the Indian Political system. Dibakar has brought together an eclectic mix of actors for the movie and couldn’t be happier by their performance. Emraan Hashmi, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin are a part of this movie. Dibakar said, “Frankly I have been stunned by the performances from our stars and our character artistes. I can safely say that all preconceived notions that people have about both Abhay and Emraan are going to be shattered by this movie.” He is confident that with the story line and the brilliant performance, Shanghai will be his best movie yet.
Dibakar is also impressed with the performance of the famous Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, who plays a pivotal role in the movie.
With all the news about ‘Shanghai’, the movie has managed to create a lot of hype in the industry already. The entire country is waiting for the movie to come to theatres. In what promises to be the most sensational movie of the year, ‘Shanghai’ has a lot of expectations to fulfill. The reactions of the fans and the critics will tell us if this is Dibakar’s best work by far. ‘Shanghai’ is slated to release on June 8, 2012, under the PVR Pictures banner.

Womens Day in the UAE

DUCTAC will be celebrating International Women’s Day (8th March) with an exhibition of photographs by the acclaimed Australian fashion, beauty and lifestyle photographer Charney Magri.
The exhibition, entitled Women of the UAE, is made up of a series of stunning photographs that depict the diversity and beauty of the Emirates’ female population. It will be on display on the terrace of DUCTAC’s Balcony Lounge from 6 – 9pm on Saturday 10th March.
The photographs that make up Women of the UAE are taken from Magri’s new book of the same name, part of the proceeds from which are going to local breast cancer awareness initiative Pink Caravan. The book features images that focus on the beauty of the subjects by capturing them in a portrait accompanied by a small written explanation of their contribution. Each subject was shot in front of a plain background so that the images reflect only the person and not their status, location or materialistic belongings. Visitors to the exhibition at DUCTAC will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the book and have it signed by Magri herself.
Fascinated by the amazing richness of cultures and opportunity in the UAE, Charney Magri moved to Dubai in 2008 and established a regional reputation as a Fashion and Beauty Photographer whilst working on her own projects. Women of the UAE, which is her first book, is intended to be a time capsule that reflects the women in the UAE and across the region, providing valuable information to future generations about the life, work and efforts of women in this part of the world and their contribution to society.

Spiritz Club Dubai

New resident DJ Noya brings sounds of the 80s and 90s to the Mövenpick Hotel Deira six nights a week along with cool classy jazz vibes from band 621 to liven-up your spiritz each weekend

Recently he tweeted about his shooting schedule in Delhi “Am shooting the last day of the schedule in delhi....” as the shooting comes to an end in Delhi, Karan revealed some exciting news about the movie.
Firstly, Karan seems immensely impressed with the three kids in the movie and has announced about releasing their exclusive images on Twitter, a social media platform soon. As Karan said, “the 3 kids in SOTY are lovely!!! Sid has a silent strong charm....Varun has a real fun bratty appeal...Alia is vivacious and super cute!!!” After all this, it will surely be a treat to see their images! But it doesn’t end here, if you have been wondering when the movie will release, here is your answer, “For everyone asking SOTY is short for STUDENT OF THE YEAR...the film i am directing currently and will release in the fall of 2012!!!” straight from Karan Johar.
While shooting for Student of the Year Karan also felt nostalgic by remembering his first directorial movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, “At heart i think i was born old....even at 25 i felt more easy directing the second half of K2H2” it s clearly visible that dhooting the youth life makes him feel older and the same in Student of the Year. While shooting amongst the youngsters Karan is feeling older than he is suppose to, the same is visible when you read his tweet. In addition, he also mentioned that since he will be turning 40 this year, working with the youth makes him feel all the more old and this might be his last youth film, “Am going to be 40 in may!!! And filming with these 20+ actors has made me realise this is definitely my last stint at a "young" film!!!” this surely must be depressing for all Karan Johar fans. However, Karan believes in doing what is best for his movies and this way, he would give chance to more new talents who understand the current generation better.
‘Student Of The Year’ is on the road again, this time shooting for a song which is being choreographed by Farah Khan. The news has just been made public by Karan Johar, as he tweeted on the popular micro blogging site, “Am off for another outdoor of SOTY....am filming my favourite song in the album with Farah!!! On flight with the newbies...will connect soon!” Though the location of the shoot has not been disclosed, the SOTY crew is on a continuous shooting schedule. And as the director promises, team SOTY has planned quite a few surprises for the fans.
Through this movie, Karan will be launching a few fresh faces in the industry. The movie stars newbies Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt as the main cast. To add to the list of the new stars, Karan has hit the fans again with another surprise! His latest tweet reads “Ok...that's Kayoze Irani!!! @kayoze...Boman Irani's super talented son who we are introducing in SOTY”. Kayoze started off his career with Dharma productions as an Assistant Director in the movie ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’.
‘Student Of The Year’ is a highly anticipated movie in the Dharma camp. Karan dons the director’s cap after a long time for this movie. This movie will definitely be close to Karan’s heart. Well, we are all waiting to see how Karan shapes this movie after his ‘My Name Is Khan’ went ahead to become a block buster in India and overseas.
With all this, it will definitely be exciting to watch how Student of the Year will turn out to be, releasing this fall.

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan is at her career best. The winners of the very first Product of the Year Award were unveiled to the United Arab Emirates public on March 6th, 2012.
Product of the Year is an independent and prestigious award that recognizes excellence in quality and innovation in the fast moving consumer goods sector, and is voted for by consumers themselves through a national survey conducted by TNS, the world’s largest custom research agency. 800 consumers in the UAE have voted for the most innovative products, in 16 categories, ranging from food and beverage, to beauty and personal care as well as consumer appliances.
Distinguished guests from the government, private business associations, the advertising industry, members of the press, in addition to senior executives from the largest multinational and local consumer goods companies, were invited to a Gala dinner and Awards Ceremony at the Palm Garden of the Park Hyatt Dubai, an evening hosted by Mr. Christian LeBret , founder and worldwide CEO of Product Of The Year International, and Mr. Dory Kfoury, CEO of Product of the Year Middle East and North Africa.

“Product of the Year is not only an award or a celebration; it is first and foremost a survey, a study that lets you know where your product stands on the market compared to its competitive set according to the consumers themselves. It is all about people's votes and consumers’ insight. Product of the Year’s survey is the people's voice” stated Mr. Dory Kfoury, CEO of Product of the year for the Middle East and North Africa.
The Product of The Year UAE initiative is supported by the Dubai Chamber, the International Advertising Association, The International Business Women’s Group, the American University of Sharjah, The Institute of Management Technology and the French Business Council. Product of the Year Middle East has also teamed with its media partners to promote the Product of the Year logo to consumers. Al Bayan, Ara Magazine, Emarat el Youm, Integral Shopper and TNS, are offering the Product of the Year UAE winners valuable prizes, allowing them to leverage the logo across different media touchpoints.
The Product of the Year UAE 2012 edition will be followed in 2013 by a GCC-wide Product of The Year Award and in many more countries in the Middle East and North Africa, as part of an aggressive expansion plan.

How to Last Longer for Men: Five Helpful Suggestions

How to last longer for men is probably one of the most commonly pondered and asked questions about male sexuality in the world today. Search for it online using that term “last longer in bed for men” or any other related term, and hundreds upon millions of results will come back. It would be nearly impossible to search through them all for the answer that works for you. However, after doing some serious digging around on the never-ending portals that comprise the World Wide Web, we have been able to derive an effective list of some of the top methods being used today for how to last longer for men. They are as follows.

Start and Stop Method
This classic method for how to last longer for men is as tried and as true as the missionary position is in the bedroom. It’s also rather simple to do as well. Basically, it involves identifying your points of ejaculation and stopping to “cool off” if you get too close to climaxing. While it may be inconvenient to have to stop and start to avoid premature ejaculation, your lover won’t mind when she is able to climax as a result.

Using Your Pelvic Muscles More
Commonly called the “male kegel,” there is much debate on the efficacy of this method to last longer in bed for men. However, countless men report that it works like a charm for them. When thrusting in, squeeze and clench your pelvic muscles tightly, then release as you pull out and repeat as you thrust back into the vagina.

Practice to Hone Your Skills in Bed
Practice makes perfect! No other adage could better represent how to last longer for men in the bedroom. So how do you practice? By masturbating, and often, of course. Try lasting longer each time you masturbate, this will ultimately make you a bedroom superhero.

Protection is Triple Purpose
Want to truly last longer in bed for men every time? Then slap on a condom, which not only helps protect you from sexually transmitted infections or unwanted pregnancies, but the thin latex also serves to decrease sensation slightly, which helps you go longer each time. Condoms offer three awesome perks with regards to healthy sex.

Avoid Going Back to “Quickies”
Think of quickies like that cigarette that you sneakily smoke when you have sworn to kick the habit. Just one time and you may be hooked again. The same mantra for how to last longer in bed men in bed applies here. Don’t undo all of your hard work to last longer by entertaining the notion of quickies. Rather, demand hot, long sex always, or not at all. It can be a tough choice, but lasting longer is well worth saying “no” on occasion. Make it up to her later on that night.

The ‘Face of SKINN’ model search, which runs until March 31st and is open to any UAE-based male model hopefuls, has also seen an incredible 3,200 online votes cast during the first seven days, as friends and colleagues of the multinational contenders battle for the early initiative.
Organised by Cosmetology, a Dubai-based cosmetics distribution company that specialises in cutting-edge, new-age dermatology and lifestyle products, the ‘Face of SKINN’ competition offers one lucky winner a once-in-a-lifetime chance to land a professional modeling contract with Diva, a professional modeling portfolio, a five-star luxury hotel stay, a top-to-toe grooming makeover with 1847, a high-intensity boot camp training programme with the Original Fitness Company, as well as one year’s supply of exclusive SKINN products.
“The initial response to the model search has exceeded our wildest expectations,” said Charlotte Proudman, Managing Director, Cosmetology. “The online platform offers up-and-coming male models a unique opportunity to associate themselves with a truly world-class brand and secure prominent media and marketing exposure in front of millions of regional consumers.”
Coming hot-on-the-heels of the regional launch of the SKINN cosmetics product range, the ‘Face of SKINN’ competition has already generated a large following and yielded significant domestic catchment. Proudman expects a series of scouting sessions – to be held in Dubai on 25 February and 2 and 10 March - to further drive participation.
“We hope the scouting approach will provide further encouragement for the nation’s female population to not only get in on the voting action, but also urge their male friends, partners and relatives to sign up,” said Proudman. “And even if they cannot make the actual sessions, women can still go online and vote for their favourite model. Every vote is important because people are going to be seeing a lot more of the ‘Face of SKINN’ – so vote and have your say in who is ultimately crowned the Face of SKINN!”
Prospective entrants need to enter quick or risk falling behind the early front-runners, as the competition will be streamlined into a top-ranked ‘Final Three’ from March 15th. Full details of the scouting session venues, as well as information on how to enter online, can be found at www.faceofskinn.com (http://www.faceofskinn.com/).
Confirmed sponsors for the ‘Face of SKINN’ model search include: Diva Modelling, 1847, The Original Fitness Company, MyDubaiMyCity.com, The Question Company, and Cova Group.

Joana Hadjithomas Exhibition

Joana Hadjithomas Khalil Joreige present three new bodies of work from their ongoing project Lebanese Rocket Society which question images, archives and the particular history of the region – focusing on the period of the 1960’s at the time of the “great Arab dream”.

For their first solo exhibition at The Third Line and following the first two parts of the project presented at the Sharjah Biennale in March 2011, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige continue their ongoing research on the Lebanese Rocket Society and explore three new bodies of works through a video and sound installation, a photographic series and the making of a rug. Documentation from Part I and II of the project will also be shown during the exhibition.

The adventure of the Lebanese Rocket Society began in the early sixties at Haigazian University where a group of students led by professor Manoug Manougian created and launched rockets for space study and exploration. Between 1960 to 1967, more than ten Cedar rockets were launched giving rise to national celebrations and resulting in a set of stamps representing the Cedar IV rocket in commemoration of the 21st anniversary of Lebanon’s independence. The project has since then, become a distant, if not forgotten memory.
To fight the oblivion in which the project sank, and to question the notion of monument, Hadjithomas and Joreige recreated a scale reproduction of the Cedar IV rocket, which was exhibited at the 2011 Sharjah Biennale. Restaged, a photographic series documents the reenactment of the rocket’s transportation through the streets of Beirut, capturing traces of strange occurrences throughout.
The exhibition also includes A Carpet; a rug that bears the image of the Cedar IV Rocket stamp that was produced in 1964 to honor this scientific project. The Lebanese Rocket Society was born in an Armenian University where most students were the descendents of survivors from the genocide in 1915. The piece refers, not only to the Lebanese Rocket Society but also to young Armenian girls who produced magnificent carpets in the 1920s at an orphanage workshop in Lebanon. These girls weaved one of the largest carpets during their time, which was offered to the President of the United States as a token of gratitude for American support of their workshop. Nearly 400 girls made this carpet over 18 months whose pattern represents the creation of the world. After initially being hung in the White House, the carpet is now, for political reasons, very rarely shown with few people aware of its existence.
Re-produced in Armenia, Hadjithomas and Joreige’s rug is an evocation, a reenactment, of these two stories; a tribute to the strengths of a group to survive, aspire and dream. The Golden Record represents aspirations in a different way. When launching, it was said that the Lebanese Rocket Society installed in the head of the Cedar rockets a radio transmitter with the message that read: “Long Live Lebanon”.
The installation shows the Golden Record filmed as it turns on the record player that enables the viewer to discover a portrait, through sound representation and reconstitution, of Beirut and the world in the 60’s – highlighting such historic events as Space race, revolutionary ideas and pan-Arabism. Lebanese Rocket Society: Part III, IV, V ponders the apparent absence of this program from society’s personal and collective memory, shedding light on perceptions of the past and present – and the imagination of the future, exploring the notion of a collective dream.
About Joana Hadjithomas Khalil Joreige Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige are Lebanese filmmakers and artists whose cinematic and visual art practices intertwine. Their films and installations emerge from a common concern with image making and storytelling. Together, they have directed documentaries such as Khiam 2000-2007 (2008), and El Film el Mafkoud (The Lost Film, 2003), and feature films including Al Bayt el Zaher (The Pink House, 1999), and A Perfect Day (2005). Their last feature film Je veux voir (I want to see), starring Catherine Deneuve and Rabih Mroué, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008 in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section and was granted the Best Singular Film Award by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics that year Hadjithomas and Joreige have created numerous photographic and video installations, their artwork has been shown in many museums, biennales and art centers on the world and is part of important public and private collections. They are currently completing a feature documentary on The Lebanese.

CATS Auditions in Dubai

CATS Auditions in Dubai

The musical CATS is based on T.S Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and features award-winning music composed by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. The incredible score is made up of favourites including The Jellicle Ball, Macavity and Mr Mistoffelees as well as the timeless chart-topper Memory which has been recorded by over 150 artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Celine Dion.
The original production of CATS opened at the New London Theatre, in London’s West End in 1981 and the show went on to live up to its motto of playing ‘Now and Forever’ by becoming the longest running musical in the history of British Theatre, as well as the longest running musical on Broadway and the longest continuously touring show in American Theatre history.
The Spotlight Academy @ DUCTAC production will be directed by award-winning director and General Manager of DUCTAC, Joseph Fowler, who was also behind last year’s highly praised production of West Side Story. Speaking about the forthcoming auditions, Joseph said: “Anyone who saw Spotlight Academy’s production of West Side Story will know that we discovered some absolutely phenomenal talent at our open auditions last year. There are some hidden gems in the UAE who myself and the creative team have no doubt could work in musical theatre professionally, and we’re hoping that we’ll find many more of them this year. We knew that we had to find a really special musical to follow West Side Story, but with 7 Tony Awards and 2 Laurence Olivier Awards, CATS is just that show. As well as having fantastic costumes, sets and choreography, the show is a chance for the people of Dubai to watch - or even star in - a show written by the incomparable musical mastermind Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. So if you haven’t already performed in a Spotlight Academy @ DUCTAC production, now is the time to seize the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of the magic of live theatre.”
Auditions for CATS are free and open to anyone aged 11 and above. The successful auditionees will go on to take part in three weeks of intensive theatre workshops and rehearsals from 17th June to 9th July 2012 with some of the UK and USA’s top creative talent. Joseph Fowler (Hello Dolly, West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Hairspray) will be joined by a team of top international talent that includes Broadway choreographer Sarah Miles (The Sound of Music, Saturday Night Fever, West Side Story). The workshops will culminate in five public performances of CATS in DUCTAC’s magnificent Centrepoint Theatre from 10th – 14th July 2012. Preparations for the show are designed to run in exactly the same way as the preparation period for a professional West End production, giving Dubai’s aspiring musical theatre stars the chance to see exactly what it takes to be a professional performer.

So why not give it a shot? The auditions are designed to be fun and friendly and are open to everyone – no previous experience is necessary, all we ask is that you have a passion for performing! For more information on the auditions check out www.ductac.org (http://www.ductac.org/) or call 04 341 4777.

Mothers day in Dubai ideas

Mothers Day in Dubai

Abu Dhabi Capital Management (“ADCM”) today announces the intention of Qannas Investments Limited (the “Company” or “Qannas”) to apply for the admission of its shares to trading on AIM, a market of the London Stock Exchange Plc ("Admission"), and to proceed with an initial offering by way of a placing of its ordinary shares to institutional and other investors.
The Company will take the form of a newly-established, closed-ended investment company incorporated in Jersey and regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission. ADCM, an alternative investment management firm based in Abu Dhabi, will act as investment manager to the Company.
Qannas will seek to generate a target IRR of at least 20 per cent by investing in a diversified portfolio of undervalued equity and debt investments, with a focus on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Highlights

Opportunity to invest in undervalued GCC assets through a manager (ADCM) with a track record in the target region. It is currently intended that the Company’s investments will be held for 3-5 years with the intention of realising values in line with the anticipated economic recovery.
Optimal capital use: the capital raising programme is designed to minimize cash drag. Qannas intends rapidly to deploy the proceeds of the IPO and subsequent capital raises to a maximum of $200m. Investors will have full pre-emption rights but will have no obligation to participate in future capital raises.
Fee structure designed to align the interests of the investment manager with those of the shareholders.

Qannas Chairman Chris Ward commented, “We believe that this is an under-invested region with strong credentials, including strong economic growth rates and a wealth of natural resources: GCC countries hold 35 per cent of the world’s known oil reserves and 22 per cent of global gas reserves. Liquidity dislocation in the region has led to declines in asset values, creating compelling investment opportunities. Qannas offers a rare opportunity for international investors to access these markets and tap into the expertise of a manager with specialist local knowledge.”

Investment strategy
The Company’s investment strategy is to utilise ADCM’s investment expertise to acquire assets at a discount to their intrinsic value from vendors who are either distressed or seeking to re-position their investment portfolios. It is intended that the Company will invest 80 percent of its capital in the GCC region with the balance utilised opportunistically on a global basis.

Board
The Qannas board will consist of four directors: three independent directors and Jassim Alseddiqi, CEO of ADCM. It will be chaired by Chris Ward.

Investment Manager
ADCM was established in January 2011 and currently manages more than $100 million in assets for institutional and high net worth investors, deployed in private equity and debt investments. The ADCM investment team, which is based in Abu Dhabi, is led by Jassim Alseddiqi and comprises six investment professionals with a total of more than 40 years of investment management and finance experience.

Advisers
Deloitte is acting as Nominated Adviser to the Company and Daniel Stewart Company as broker. Appleby has been appointed as Jersey legal adviser, and Herbert Smith LLP as English law adviser. BDO is the auditor and reporting accountant. Appleby Fund Administrators (Jersey) Limited will act as administrator and custodian.

‘The Animals and Children Took to the Streets’ combines live music, physical theatre and animation
Play is great example of UK’s global leadership in the arts and culture arena

Theatre lovers are in for a treat this February as British Council in the UAE and DUCTAC present a brilliantly inventive new show The Animals and the Children Took to the Streets, a Dubai performance British Council executives have said is a great example of the UK’s commitment to promoting its global leadership in artistic creativity.

An incredible mix of live music, physical theatre and film brought to life by 1927, the play is to be performed by an award-winning theatre company who have been described by The Times newspaper as ‘frighteningly gifted’.
The company will be performing for the very first time in Dubai at the Kilachand Studio theatre in DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates from 23rd to 25th February 2012.
Michel Bechara, Head of Projects, British Council UAE, said: “British Council is committed to promoting the creativity and innovativeness of the UK, and this play by 1927 is another great example of the UK’s leading creative cultural scene.”
Seamlessly synchronizing live music, performance and storytelling with stunning films and animation, this entrancing show is sure to be a hit with fans of theatre, film, animation and live art, as well as those who simply want to be transported into another world straight from the pages of a graphic novel.
“We are delighted to work with DUCTAC again to plan, resource and deliver such a high-impact performance involving professional artists and organisations from the UK. While we aim to promote such new UK works, we want to establish long-term partnerships and attract wider audiences in the UAE. Therefore, and in addition to the performances, 1927 will deliver a series of workshops to university students and to emerging artists, sharing their knowledge and experience in mixing animation with live performance and music, and, more importantly, introducing this innovative synchronisation of various creative forms to storytelling; one of the most appreciated and respected art forms in the UAE,” added Bechara.

In this wickedly twisted tale, 1927 welcome audiences to the Bayou, a part of the city feared and loathed, wherein lies the infamous Bayou Mansions; a sprawling stinking tenement block, where curtain-twitchers and peeping-toms live side by side, and the wolf is always at the door. When Agnes Eaves and her daughter arrive there late one night, does it signal hope in this hopeless place, or has the real horror only just begun?
The Animals and Children Took to the Streets premiered at the Sydney Opera House in October 2010 following 12 months of research development in Scotland, England and Australia and a 6 month making process in London. The show is 1927’s second production, following the enormous success of their debut show Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea which achieved critical acclaim and multiple sell out seasons, won six prestigious industry awards (Herald Angel, Fringe First, Arches Brick, Carol Tamber, Total Theatre and Peter Brook Empty Space/Equity Ensemble Awards) and was nominated for two New York Drama Desk awards.
Like a giant novel burst into life, 1927, The British Council in the UAE DUCTAC invite you on a theatrical journey of startling originality.
The Animals and Children Took to the Streets is part of DUCTAC’s Season 11/12, a multidisciplinary arts festival featuring a host of high-calibre artists and performers from around the globe. SEASON 2011/12 includes visual art, music, dance, drama and film events providing the community with a rich cultural programme throughout the winter.

Gubbare

Team EMAET has a pleasant surprise in store for all the fans over the weekend. With a brilliant performance from a very tender age, Daniel Radcliffe has cemented his position in our hearts with the portrayal of the young wizard, Harry Potter, who triumphs over the evil wizard Voldemort in an epic battle of good vs. bad.
But this time, Radcliffe will be seen in PVR Pictures next release, ‘The Woman In Black’ in a role which is a far outcry from the magical world of Harry Potter. Radcliffe plays the role of a young lawyer in this upcoming super natural thriller. In this role, Radcliffe will be portray a more mature role in a more sombre and realistic setting. Apart from the famous Harry Potter series, Radcliffe has also featured in a Broadway ‘Equus’ and has lent his voice for an episode in The Simpsons.
No doubt, Daniel has grown as an actor over the years but ‘The Woman In Black’ will definitely be seen as a big stepping stone in his career where he finally breaks free from his image of the boy wizard and proves his ability to step into the shoes of any character he plays.
We are all waiting for the release of ‘The Woman In Black’ to see if the boy wizard Harry Potter successfully morphs into the young lawyer Arthur Kipps of ‘The Woman In Black’, and impress his audience with an enthralling performance.

International Turnkey Systems Dubai

Dubai, 20th December, 2011: TechAccess recently hosted a gathering to announce the winner of its exciting Mercedes Promotion which was launched at the beginning of year in January 2011. Artificial Grass is made of synthetic fibers. It looks like a natural grass only and feels exceptionally realistic. Mostly it is used in sports field. Now it is being used on Residential Lawns and Commercial Lawns also. Everyone thinks beautiful yard all year. But it’s very difficult to maintain this natural grass that is the main reason now people started using artificial grass. Artificial grass requires no maintenance reduces your water consumption and saves money too. When it comes to installing artificial lawn, there are numerous benefits.

Artificial grass is easy to maintain - No mowing, weeding or watering required, with artificial grass. It is best for them who have no time for mowing and maintaining their lawns. And if there is an option available than why add the burden of mowing, watering, weeding and nurturing a lawn to your existing workload. You can relax in your garden and get into your lawn chair with a good book or host a BBQ without worrying about the condition of your grass. Artificial lawn is easy to clean and maintain. One can simply use a broom or a leaf blower to clean any debris

Safe and Non-Toxic – The fertilizers used in growth of grass, the pesticides used to get rid of those pesky ants and spiders before they get into your house, all these can be harmful to your health, for children who use lawn more to as their play area or lay on the grass. To use all these type of medicines or pesticides you need to stay away from your lawn for a recommended number of hours. An artificial lawn carries none of these risks. These artificial grass blades are non-toxic, lead free, and do not require the treatments needed by seeded or sodded lawns. It’s very safe also.

Save Money Save Water - An artificial lawn costs significantly less to maintain. You have no need to pay for lawn care. It is also expensive to maintain a natural lawn. Natural grass requires constant watering while artificial lawn saves water and reduces the water cost. Artificial grass also saves you money in buying fertilizer, equipment, tools, lawn mowers and gasoline, Because Artificial grass doesn’t want all this. You have no need to employ a gardener

Artificial grass is super soft to the touch and parents love artificial turf because they let children have fun outdoors without the mess of mud or grass stains. Artificial grass is beautiful and hassle free, your lawn will look beautiful year round without you lifting a finger. Synthetic lawn turf is, in some ways, far better for the environment than real grass.

Main Summery of Advantages is as under.

• low maintenance which saves on cost, time and effort; • always bright green, even in shady areas or in scorching summer heat; • watering, mowing, cutting edges, fertilizing, aerating and weeding are no longer necessary; • clean and elastic surface which prevents injuries for athletes and children; • playing devices and inflatable swimming pools do not cause yellow spots; • hard-wearing top quality material which ensures pleasure without worry; • anti-skid on wet spots and less risk of moss; • non-allergenic e.g. hay fever; • no mud after rain

UAE
The incense burns non-stop here, drawing in curious shoppers with its natural woody fragrance. It’s like stepping into a traditional market out of the 1,001 Arabian Nights legend. There are perfumes and incense for use at home and for clothes starting at Dh30 (for as many grams), flowing black abayas for Dh200, and UAE dates for Dh50 per kg.
India
Kashmiri pashmina (woollen) shawls that are incredibly soft and light yet keep you warm and cosy are draped over several stalls here. Depending on the quality of the Himalayan goat wool (cashmere) and colourful hand-stitched embroidery used, prices hover between Dh200 and Dh2,000. They can last a lifetime; be sure to wash the shawl only in cold water and air-dry it.
Iran
Grace your home with famed Persian handmade carpets in a variety of designs and sizes. The Tarasoli rug stall there claims to be the only one at Global Village with authentic Persian carpets. They start at about Dh2,000 – no matter what the size – and come in silk, wool, and silk-wool varieties. On your way out, don’t miss out on Iran’s superior quality dry fruits, priced at about Dh100 per kilo for a bag of mixed nuts.
Africa
African tribal men and women greet you at the gates as you enter a microcosm of the continent. The entire pavilion is lined with souvenir stalls, selling wooden miniatures of wildlife, tribal caricatures and masks.
They start at just Dh20, but one shop there is offering two 10-foot giraffes for Dh25,000. There are also reptile-skin handbags, with tiny wallet-sized ones costing about Dh200.
China
It is easy to see why China is the “workshop of the world” when you come across a dizzying variety of readymade garments, window curtains, bedcovers, accessories and toys. The price range is equally wide, with some steal deals on window curtains (2.5mx2.7m) for just Dh125. You can also pick up offbeat nightdresses and lingerie for only Dh35 a piece.
Thailand
It’s a mini bazaar seemingly air-lifted from an alley in Bangkok and put down in Dubai. The aroma of spicy Thai delights wafts across the pavilion, which has back-to-back food stalls selling combos for about Dh25.
There is also a Thai grocery store stacked with products from the Southeast Asian country. If all the hustle and bustle wears you down, pop in for a Thai massage, priced at about Dh200 per hour.
Pakistan
Keep the winter chill out – and do it in style – with Pakistani handcrafted pure leather jackets at rock-bottom prices. Starting at about Dh200 for sheep leather, the much sought-after attire also comes with collars and sleeves lined with fox fur, for around Dh500. If you want to really stand out, it will cost you extra, with cow leather overcoats going for some Dh800. You can take a tea break at the traditional food stall there, serving hot tea and tangy fried snacks like samosas.
Yemen
You won’t have to guess what this pavilion is known for, when scores of honey salesmen spoil you with freebies of the golden stuff. The honey is so pure and fresh you can smell and taste hints of the nectar the bees sipped to produce the end product. Dh150 a kilo is the going rate for most types, though you should expect to fork out more for varieties such as “Only for married”, said to boost intimacy.
Spain
The Mediterranean country has come to the fair for the first time – and taken visitors by pleasant surprise. The spotless pavilion is decked out with festive décor and traditional shop signs, offering cute little souvenirs, the world-famous churros (sweet fried bread) and, of course, Real Madrid football club gear. Stall keepers said their prices are unbeatable, despite traditional Spanish products not being easily available in Dubai. But the showstopper is a stall with traditional Spanish silk shawls known as manton de Manila. Some of these handmade beauties take six months to make. Prices start at about Dh350, going up to Dh10,000 for the larger ones. They even have shawls turned into Arabic headscarves for about Dh265.
Egypt
This is one of the biggest, tallest pavilions – but small on costs. At every corner you turn are giant stalls selling Egyptian gowns for men and women, and night suits for children. The men and children’s clothes – said to be of pure cotton – are priced at about Dh35 per piece (or three for Dh100). The women’s dresses go for about Dh60 per item, or two for Dh100.

The 216-room property, which was awarded the internationally renowned Green Globe Certification just eight months after opening, is actively pursuing an environmental agenda designed to engage stakeholders at all levels, from employees and guests to the local community.
“We want the green message to hit home throughout the year, and with Christmas traditionally associated with care and consideration, what better time to reinforce sustainable initiatives than through a visual medium such as a recycled Christmas tree,” said Michael Nugent, General Manager.
The trio of trees were designed and constructed by a six-person team of enterprising employees, with each one showcasing a different recyclable material.
On entering the hotel lobby, guests will be greeted by the impressive sight of a 2.5-metre high tree made entirely out of used light bulbs, taking centre stage in the lobby, while Wok In restaurant will be graced by another 2-5-metre tall tree constructed entirely from plastic bottles. Completing the trio, the hotel’s Executive Lounge will feature its own tree comprised of cardboard boxes (gifts from Santa not included).
The festive project took 623 hours to complete and used a total of 1,850 light bulbs, 845 plastic bottles and 200 cardboard boxes.
“Seeing what are essentially waste products given a new lease of life is an opportunity for us to not only highlight the topical issue of consumption but also inspire both our guests and employees to think responsibly and creatively at this time of year,” said Nugent.
The hotel is also following a long-standing Mövenpick Hotels Resorts seasonal tradition with a handmade gingerbread house on public display. This delicious sweet seasonal treat will be donated to a local charity along with a free hamper.
Guests can enjoy the green festivities with the hotel’s special seasonal package in a Junior Suite for AED 1,400 net per room per night including breakfast, Christmas Eve dinner for two persons at Wok In restaurant, a home made Christmas cake on arrival and late checkout until 4pm (subject to availability). Promotion valid from 23-26 December 2011.

William Kentridge Exhibition

DUCTAC’s Gallery of Light is set to host the UAE’s first ever contemporary South African Art Exhibition this January when it plays host to Mine, an exhibition of films by South African artists. The exhibition, which is supported by Emax, will run from 18th January – 4th February 2012 and will showcase video productions by nineteen South African artists including internationally-renowned artists William Kentridge and Robin Rhode.
The exhibition is curated by South African artist, photographer and curator Abrie Fourie, who explains the concept behind the exhibition:
“The title refers not only to the idea of deep level mining, but to the concept of personal ownership. The works featured have been chosen for their diversity, with the common denominator that the artists make reference to themselves in their work, either in person, as actor, model, observer, interviewer or instigator. Mine seeks to explore the myriad ways in which we identify and position our ‘selves’.”
Some of the artists whose works feature in Mine currently live in European capitals, while others are based in South Africa, although their increased presence in the global art world since 1994 means making frequent forays abroad. Nevertheless, whether creating from a local or diasporal perspective, and no matter how varied the themes and artistic strategies may be, all the works presented in this show are centred in one way or another around specifically ‘South African’ issues.

Mine has been made possible thanks to the invaluable support of Emax, the largest electronics retailer in the Middle East. The contribution and technical assistance provided demonstrates the company’s continuing support for the arts in our society. Mr. Neelesh Bhatnagar, CEO of Emax, said, “We have continually worked towards giving back to society who have played an integral role in our success. Mine is a wonderful initiative and Emax is proud to be associated with it”.
At the heart of the exhibition are works by internationally-renowned artists William Kentridge and Robin Rhode. Kentridge is known for his evocative prints, charcoal drawings, animated films and theatre works that reflect the complexity of a South African society brutalised by decades of apartheid. Kentridge has had major exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2009); Philadelphia Museum of Art (2008); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2007); and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2004), among others. He has been recognised with many awards, including the Sharjah Biennale 6 prize, Carnegie Prize (Carnegie Museum of Art) and the Goslar Kaisserring Award.

Robin Rhode approaches his multidisciplinary and unconventional art practice through the high energy of street inventiveness and youth culture, often drawing on the subcultural codes of hip hop, popular sports, film and fashion to render the everyday as art. Rhode’s work is included in the collections of numerous international institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA),New York; Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC; the Honart Museum Collection, Tehran; and the Goetz Collection in Munich, amongst others.

The other artists whose works are featured in the exhibition are: Bridget Baker, Dineo Seshee Bopape, Doris Bloom, Jacques Coetzer, Teboho Edkins, Simon Gush Dorothee Kreutzfeldt, Donna Kukama, Michael MacGarry, Nandipha Mntambo, Zanele Muholi, Cedric Nunn, Berni Searle, Lerato Shadi, Penny Siopis, Gregg Smith and Johan Thom.

2011 Christmas in Dubai

For a stress-free Christmas corporate gathering let The Gate’s special event elves do all the work, leaving you free to enjoy an evening of festive fun with colleagues and friends.

Brands need to change fast too and rise to the challenge of ever-increasing customer expectations. Traditional points and miles alone are no longer strong enough to drive customer loyalty.
“Customer-centric e-tailers like Amazon have, for example, introduced many customer relationship techniques that demonstrate the power of suggestion. The proven success of recommending purchases and activities, based on previous interactions, shows how easily the customer experience can be personalised to encourage loyalty. Equally, brands need to embrace the complex, interconnected benefits of the evolving social media world. Customers already love and include online social communities in their everyday lives. Brands that understand how they can play a more significant role within their customers’ social communities can create greater emotional connections. Brands must find innovative ways to add even greater value in these channels to increase their customers’ loyalty.
“From airline frequent flyer programmes through to B2B reseller programmes, many loyalty strategies have not progressed from outdated legacy business models. If brands fail to innovate consistently, and fail to find ways to differentiate their customer relationships from competitor offerings, they risk losing vital customers.”
Dion Maritz, general manager of ICLP Middle East, adds: “The frustration is that many companies, from financial services organisations, supermarkets and utilities providers through to airlines and hotels, already hold a vast amount of data and information on their customers. But they are not making the creative leap from insight to innovation. Fuel and air alone do not make a fire; to create unique customer value, you also need a spark.
“Listening to customers is a starting point, of course, but not always enough. Henry Ford once commented that had he asked his customers what they wanted, they would have just said a faster horse. Loyalty and marketing professionals in all industries need to show Ford’s foresight in understanding what the customer wants and then exceed those expectations with an innovative new proposition. In fact, the e-tailer ‘recommendation’ technique perfectly illustrates the point, highlighting to customers products that they might want but just not be aware of yet.”
Buckingham concludes: “We’re practising what we preach at ICLP, which includes revamping – to include much more of the detailed and informative content for which the market and our customers have been asking. As well as the improved look and feel, we have also listened to the loyalty and marketing community and used this insight to evolve our thinking and ensure the website delivers a global hub of loyalty intelligence.”

Khawla Darwish and Mona Fares

The second pair of artists taking part in DUCTAC’s Artists in Residence programme are preparing for an exhibition of the work they have created during their residency. Emirati painter and sculptor Khawla Darwish and German-Egyptian artist Mona Fares who have been working alongside each other in DUCTAC’s Gallery of Light throughout their residency, will be presenting a series of brand new works including paintings, mixed media work and installation.

The exhibition is entitled ‘E7SASI’ and will run from Wednesday 14th to Tuesday 20th December 2011. Explaining the title of the exhibition, Khawla Darwish said:
“The title that Mona and I have chosen for our exhibition is a play on the Arabic word ‘ehsasi’ which translates as ‘my feelings’. The inclusion of the number 7 represents a letter from the Arabic language that does not exist in the English alphabet. It is common amongst our generation to write in this ‘new’ language that combines numbers and letters to create words written in the English alphabet that can be read in Arabic. This new way of writing is indicative of the world we now live in, where the traditional and the contemporary exist side by side, aided by modern technology.”
The Gallery of Light’s Artists in Residence programme is a continuation of the gallery’s mission to promote and develop opportunities for under-represented artists and curators. It is hoped that the programme will also help to sustain the gallery’s other aim - to provide a platform for dialogue between artists, both locally and across cultures.
The gallery has been open to the public throughout the Residency, with visitors being invited to interact with the artists and watch them at work. Colette Mol, Arts Manager at DUCTAC, said: "The idea behind the Residency is to enable these talented artists to consider their practice from new perspectives, out of the context of their regular studios. For the visiting public, we hope that open-studio access to the artists during the Residency will help to demystify contemporary art making and provide inspiration for their own creative ideas.”
The Gallery of Light Residency Programme is supported by Citymax Hotels. Russel Sharp, COO of Citymax Hotels said that their involvement demonstrated the group’s dedication to supporting the arts: “Our partnership with DUCTAC is an example of our commitment to support local arts and culture within the UAE. We believe in celebrating the local arts in order to strengthen the surrounding community and its heritage.”

The gallery is now accepting applications for future residencies. For further information, please contact galleryoflight@ductac.org (mailto:galleryoflight@ductac.org) see www.ductac.org (http://www.ductac.org/) or call 04 341 4777.

The brainchild of Dubai-based branding consultant Suha Krimeed, the website is designed to be the ‘go to’ source for clients looking to secure high quality artistic talent, as well as give entertainers of all descriptions a platform to promote their specialist talent to a wider audience.
“The idea behind talentcode-me.com is a direct result of more than 10 years experience in organising and commissioning successful events across multiple industry sectors; with a desire to make world-class artistic talent accessible to the Middle East market through a single online portal,” she said.
With a proven track record in branding, marketing and business development for leading multinationals and renowned regional players in the financial, oil and gas, investment, real estate and hospitality sectors, Krimeed’s contacts across the region have provided a ready source of entertainment talent, which is being complemented by a growing number of internationally-based artists.
“The unique service will streamline the often frustrating and time consuming task of sourcing and securing entertainment for a specific occasion or event; and it has been designed with the needs of event management companies and PR agencies – and their clients - in mind,” she added.

This special seasonal offer includes a welcome beverage, traditional breakfast, one 30-minute spa treatment and a three-course dinner at the hotel’s new signature restaurant, ‘Thirty Six’, from just US$560 per night (excluding 20% VAT) per room.
“While London is a popular summer destination for our Gulf clients, the city really does offer a uniquely different experience during the winter months, and our Christmas Sparkle promotion enables Middle Eastern visitors to enjoy London’s festive spirit at its best,” said Debrah Dhugga, General Manager, DUKES LONDON.
For those looking for an upscale retail experience, DUKES LONDON has a wealth of shopping destinations on its doorstep, and is a mere five-minute walk from some of the city’s most sought-after stores on nearby Bond Street.
“Our central Mayfair location means that many guests choose to stay with us to take advantage of the endless retail opportunities in the immediate area, and so we have also created several other seasonal promotions - from a relaxing post-shopping foot massage to Christmas themed afternoon tea - to offer the ultimate festive experience,” she added.
DUKES LONDON also has a dedicated women’s only floor for female business and leisure visitors, which is attracting an increasing number of Middle Eastern ladies looking for discreet service and a safe environment in which to enjoy a winter break. The rooms feature a number of specially designed feminine touches including a personalised welcome card from the female general manager and a female room attendant who escorts guests to their rooms and handles all room service and housekeeping requirements.

“ Spiritz is a lively fun place to be and complements our existing restaurants perfectly. There is a complete entertainment programme throughout the week, including perennial favourites such as quiz night, ladies night and karaoke night. We also have some exciting new promotions such as frog night and shots night,” said Michael Nugent, general manager of the hotel.
The interior matches the red and black theme of the Asian favourite Wok In restaurant but has an additional modern edge to the bar. Five TV screens and one projector placed around Spiritz will make sure that everyone has a chance to watch the game at ease.
The venue will also feature a resident DJ and of course what self-respecting public house would deny their patrons a happy hour? In the case of Spiritz, punters will have two cracks at buying selected beverages for just AED15 each, once between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and then again at 11.30pm and 12.30am.
Good news travels fast and with the opening of Dubai Metro’s green line, so will customers of Spiritz. The Abu Baker Al Siddique station is a only a five-minute stroll from the hotel, so no need to sit gridlocked in a taxi. Sit back relax and let the train take the strain and do your bit for the environment.

Hu Yongkai Exhibition

Celebrated Chinese artist Hu Yongkai will exhibit a series of brand new works for the first time this November as part of DUCTAC’s Season 2011/12. Michael Nugent, the hotel's general manager explained; “Many visitors arriving from different time zones need a little peace and quiet to help them relax, unwind and get some much needed sleep. Our quiet zones are designed to achieve just that.”
To maintain tranquility, a designated ‘quiet floor’ has been reserved exclusively for business guests. Children will not be allowed onto the floor and room service will be carried by tray. In addition housekeeping trolleys will be confined to between 8am and 10pm.
“For any late night or early morning housekeeping requirements we will operate a basket service, to keep any disturbance to an absolute minimum,” added Nugent.
The rooms themselves come complete with subdued lighting to soothe tired eyes; comfortable bed sheets and a pillow menu including one piece down feather pillow with additional options for anti allergic or neck support pillows.
To add to that, TV volumes are pre-set to a comfortable level, ear plugs and eye masks are available in every room as part of the amenities and telephone calls are automatically directed to voice mail upon request for business guests that would like complete peace and quiet. Finally a selection of herbal teas will be made available, to calm the body and relax the mind to promote a deep and restful sleep.
To take even more stress out of business trips, the Dubai Metro’s green line is conveniently located just five minutes walk from the hotel. So business guests at the hotel can now travel to business appointments and let the train take the strain.
Room rates for the relax zone start at just AED595 plus 10% service charge and 10% municipality fees, subject to availability.

White Collar Boxing Dubai

Training open day for White Collar Fight Night to take place at KO Gym in Dubai in December as entries from White Collar hopefuls roll in.

With a number of entries already received, business men and women gear up to start training in preparation for their respective head-to-head contests at White Collar Fight Night, which takes place on 23 March 2012 at the Andalous Ballroom, Habtoor Grand Hotel, Dubai.

The open day, which takes place on December 3rd at the KO Gym in Dubai Marina, will give the potential contenders a chance to sign up for the intense 8 week training programme which starts in January and runs all the way up to the fight night.

Moving into its eighth year, the event which combines a black tie dinner with a programme of entertainment and fundraising culminating in the White Collar boxing bouts, is a night that will pack a punch.

“Following the resounding success of White Collar Boxing VII in June, next year’s fight night has attracted even greater interest than this year which is quite something with both male and female participants from a greater range of ind

ustry sectors having already applied,” said Mark Povey, organiser for the event. “What has become apparent over the years is although the ages and fitness levels may vary, the common denominator is that as novices they are all determined to master the noble art of boxing during their time at the training camp, whilst also increasing their mental toughness and physical fitness which they always take with them to better their lives after the event.”

White Collar Boxing was created for contestants with no prior boxing experience who can take the mental discipline, determination and dedication they show in the build-up and event participation, back to their work place. Amongst the contestants will be four women, eager to show that multi-tasking is not the only aspect of a woman’s skill set.

“During the selection process, we ensure that all contestants are equally matched and ready to compete on the night. Each competitor receives professional training and coaching and will box under the unique rules of White Collar which make competitor safety and welfare a priority,” said Povey.

“Our professional team of trainers and fitness experts will take each competitor through a rigorous eight week training programme which starts in January, concentrating on improving fitness through exercise and diet, as well as technical training.”

Each bout consists of three, two-minute rounds under the supervision of a professional referee. There are no losers; anyone who trains and then competes in White Collar is a winner.

White Collar Boxing originated in Gleasons Gym, New York, in 1988. The first contest was held between Dr Richard Novak, an attorney and veterinarian, and Dr David Lawrence who held a PhD in English literature. After the contest the two went to dinner to celebrate the birth of a new sport.

Coffee Planet Dubai

Coffee Planet has signed a partnership agreement with aswaaq supermarkets to install Coffee Planet fresh coffee machines into seven of their stores.
Andy James, convenience store sector Director for Coffee Planet, commented: “There is a great deal of synergy between our premium brands and we are both focusing on similar customer profiles. This initiative broadens our reach into the residential convenience store sector, offering shoppers coffee on-the-go, while they shop. It is a win-win situation, enhancing the shopping experience at aswaaq and introducing Coffee Planet to even more consumers.”
Coffee Planet provides gourmet coffee to drivers throughout the UAE at 150 ADNOC and ENOC/EPPCO petrol stations, serving 10,000 cups of fresh coffees each every day, through its expanding network. Its ‘Express’ model of bean to cup, fresh milk coffee machines dispenses premium Arabica coffee. The automatic computer controlled machines can make a premium cappuccino coffee in less than 40 seconds, cutting down on waiting time and living-up to the expression, ‘on-the-go’.
Coffee Planet is also one of the leading providers of technology in the region, not only for the hi-tech way in which it dispenses coffee, but also for controlling the quality of their coffee by opening their own dedicated AED7.5 million state-of-the-art roastery, the now the biggest in the Middle East.
Its new partnership with aswaaq which currently has seven stores in and around Dubai represents an extension to this model. “Our first coffee machine will be installed in the aswaaq’s Sufouh outlet and we believe that there are many more opportunities in the retail space, where Coffee Planet can meet the growing demand for its coffee. We will be rolling-out this model across many retail outlets over the coming months,” continued James.
aswaaq expressed their delight for being able to bring this additional service to their customers. “Coffee Planet already has a considerable and loyal customer base and we hope to build on that. We’ll be creating some special promotions to encourage our customers to try the coffee” commented Affan Al Khoori, Executive Director-Retail for aswaaq.

Farnek Avireal a leading Middle East facilities management company, myclimate’s partner in the Middle East, provided consultancy and advisory to enable the school to calculate its carbon emissions and to support their successful plan to offset those emissions to become carbon neutral.
According to Markus Oberlin, the general manager of Farnek Avireal, himself the father of two young daughters, the school managed to offset over 40 tonnes of carbon emissions. “Compared with a large hotel or commercial tower, the savings are modest but if every school in the UAE managed to become carbon neutral it would make a significant difference. It would also educate children that collectively they can make a real difference, irrespective of how insignificant individual contributions may seem. Indeed as the saying goes, from little acorns…”
Measures taken by the school to rebalance their carbon emissions included recycling and making their own paper, using a filtration system to dispense water, which cuts out the need to order plastic bottles and run refrigeration units. Other simple but highly effective measures employed include lining the windows with coloured film to reduce classroom temperatures, refilling and recycling toner cartridges for printers, using potato peelings to make compost for the school gardens and utilising special chemicals that require minimal water to clean the floors and furniture. Children are also educated about the excessive use of toilet paper.
“Educating our children about the environment promotes a well-rounded, ethical life built on integrity and honesty. We try to empower them, nurture the seed to achieve, so that they can be the change that they want to see in the world. This initiative will have positive long-lasting and far reaching implications. That we hope that will be the legacy of Blossom,” said Zahra Hamirani, the chief education officer at the Blossom Nursery.
To support their claims, at Blossom the alphabet is taught using letters that have been made out of recycled materials and is prominently displayed in school’s foyer. In the art and craft area children are taught about sustainability through recycled art. Blossom also uses an environmental calendar which recognises significant sustainability dates such as Earth Day and Environmental Day when pupils are encouraged to wear something green to mark the occasion.
The school has even created a character called Wasteful Wanda to reinforce the environmental message, through storytelling. The children soon recognise what Wanda is doing wrong and propose ways in which she can be more eco-friendly
The school currently teaches over 400 pupils of pre-school age (6 months to 4 years) over two sites in Jumeirah and has 90 staff members. The school drives home the environmental message through lessons in Arabic, French and English.
“It is rather appropriate that the should be recognised by myclimate, as the foundation was launched in 2002 as a project by students and professors in Zürich. Today this charitable Swiss organisation is one of the leading global providers of voluntary and compliance carbon offsetting solutions. I’m sure these young eco warriors in Dubai will go on to lead a more sustainable lifestyle,” added Oberlin.
Farnek Avireal in its own right not only consults, it leads by example. Last year the company launched the first carbon neutral bus in the region to transport its staff and its offices and staff accommodation are models of sustainability, with a raft of carbon reducing features from low energy light bulbs to water diffusers and energy-saving modules that regulate air conditioning units.

However, this season there’s definitely more than a little bit of magic in the air. Quite apart from the classic board games such as Chess, Monopoly, Cluedo and Scrabble, Ping Pongers will also be amazed by the sleight of hand from world-famous magician Gaston Quieto, who will give a performance on Sundays between 23rd October and 4th December.
Gaston is an international award-winning illusionist and sleight of hand specialist who has performed around the world, on stage and television, entertaining heads of state and royalty including former US President Bill Clinton as well as the royal families of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and the UAE.

And no need to queue or strain to see over a crowd, Gaston will pass by tables mystifying and enthralling kids and parents alike close-up and personal.

So how do you ensure Gaston visits your table? Well there’s no telepathy involved. There will be a special area of the restaurant which will be kept separate for guests who order the set menu, which is competitively priced at AED130 for 5 baskets per adult and AED60 for 2 baskets per child. Drinks are not included.
“We always encourage a fun and lively atmosphere at Ping Pong and we are extremely lucky to have Gaston, he is a real star, quite simply he’s magic. Combine that with our tasty dim sum dishes and families are in for a real treat,” said Angelo Domenico Rosato, General Manager of Ping Pong at The Dubai Mall.

One thing is for sure, chicken buns, vegetable spring rolls and of course the king of all dumplings, the prawn har gau, are proof enough Ping Pong’s chefs have their own brand of magic and that’s no illusion.

Ping Pong Dubai is located on the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall, overlooking The Dubai Fountains. For more details, please visit www.pingpongdimsum.ae (http://www.pingpongdimsum.ae/)

Teta, Alf Marra to hit UAE cinema screens Abu Dhabi, UAE 05 October 2011: twofour54 based Veritas Films today announced that Mahmoud Kaabour’s multi-award winning documentary “Teta, Alf Marra” (Grandma, a Thousand Times) is to be released in theatres in the UAE from the 27th October to 9th November. “Teta, Alf Marra” is the first film to be made from Veritas Film’s offices in Abu Dhabi. The release marks the first time that a documentary by an Abu Dhabi company or a twofour54 partner has opened theatrically in the UAE. “Teta, Alf Marra” is inarguably the most successful and best travelled Arab documentary of the past year. But returning to the UAE for a theatrical release of the film is nothing less than the crowning jewel.” “Family love is as integral to the UAE as it is to Arab culture, so I’m confident that local audiences will relate to the emotions in the film. I hope that anyone who’s loved and cherished a grandmother will be charmed by what we have created,” he concluded. “Teta, Alf Marra” will be released theatrically in Dubai from Oct 27th – Nov 9th and in Abu Dhabi from Oct 27th – Nov 5th. Miele, one of the world’s leading company’s which produces high-end home appliances including cooking, refrigeration, dishwashers, floor and laundry care officially opened its new multi-purpose gallery including an exclusive GCC launch of the Fire/Ice range of products in Dubai, last night. (Tuesday 27 September, 2011).

The new gallery is designed to showcase a wide range of stunning appliances on the lower floor, with the mezzanine level perfectly furnished to host a number of events from product launching and demonstrations, a fully equipped, four hands on, cooking station for which can be used for private cooking classes, fashion shows, art exhibitions, and training sessions to name but a few.

“The new gallery’s architecture and elements embodies luxury, elegance and quality - three elements that represent the very essence of the brand in a full white setting accentuating the sense of detail, construction, and craftsmanship for which the brand is renowned, appealing to quality-conscious consumers of all nationalities.” said Gaby Koudsi, Managing Director for Miele in the GCC.

'Fire', a part of the brand new range of home appliances, appeals to lovers of exquisite design and those in pursuit of unique values. And, in this case, can be taken literally as the solid handles on these machines, together with the delivery unit on the coffee machine and the milk flask, have a high-gloss, gold-plate finish. In combination with titanium-style fascia panels and rear-printed bronze glass surfaces, this creates an ensemble which oozes a sense of value and immediately upgrades even the most exquisite of kitchens.

The gallery at Sama Tower was inaugurated by Managing Director and Co-owner of the company Dr. Markus Miele, the direct descendent of Carl Miele, a co-founder of the company in 1899, who had flown in direct from Germany especially for the launch.

“We are confident that UAE is the perfect place to present our appliances. That is why we opened a showroom in Bur Dubai as early as January 2005 which is being succeeded by the new Gallery in the Sama Tower along Sheikh Zayed Road. Our products and our company can be experienced first-hand in this new setting, and we are convinced that many will take this opportunity.” said Dr. Markus Miele.

The harmonious design also features a walk-through floor plan that in essence offers a journey through Miele’s luxury product range, starting with the revolutionary home control system from Miele @ Home, through to cooking, cooling, laundry and floor care appliances. Sustainability is at heart of all Miele design and therefore naturally the gallery comes complete with a ‘green’ lounge where clients can relax with the best coffee made from Miele’s own high end luxury coffee machines.

“This new gallery now takes its place alongside fifty other marvellous Miele galleries in cosmopolitan cities such as Berlin, London, Milan, Paris and Singapore. The opening was attended by a host of top designers and architects enjoying Canapés and drinks accompanied by live jazz and an illusionist. Stephane Buchholzer, Executive Chef at the five star Westin Hotel Dubai, was also on hand to demonstrate how Miele’s latest range of innovative appliances could be used to produce a highly entertaining and extremely technical, not forgetting delicious, molecular cooking demonstration,“ said Koudsi.

“It is also a clear sign of our confidence in UAE and underscores our aspiration for future growth across the entire Gulf region. Indeed 2012 will be the launch of Miele in Saudi Arabia,” added Koudsi.

Gallery of Light Artists

Gallery of Light Artists in Residence prepare for their end of residency exhibition ‘Holding the Locust’

DUCTAC’s first two artists in residence, Dubai-based British artist Simon Coates and Ethiopian artist Ephrem Solomon, are preparing to mark the end of their residency at the Gallery of Light with an exhibition of their work, entitled Holding the Locust.

The exhibition, which will run from Saturday 1st to Wednesday 5th October, will feature the work that Coates and Solomon have created during their month long residency. The pair have been working alongside one another at DUCTAC’s Gallery of Light since the beginning of September and their residency will officially end on Wednesday 5th October, when visitors are invited to join them in the Gallery for a closing reception from 7pm onwards.
Coates, who hails from London and has been resident in Dubai for 8 months, explains that the title of the show reflects how he and Solomon - who travelled to Dubai from Addis Ababa especially for the residency – have been influenced by the city:
“The name Dubai literally translates as 'baby locust' and Ephrem and I both agree that the work we've created during the residency reflects our experiences of Dubai. As we work, we're studying the city and the culture here, almost as if we're holding it in our hand.”
The second phase of the programme will begin on 9th October when Emirati Painter and Sculptor Khawla Darwish will begin work alongside Dubai-based German-Egyptian artist Mona Fares, with their Residency continuing until 31st October. The work that they create will be exhibited in the Gallery of Light in early November.

Featuring painters Nihad al Turk, Oussama Diab, Mohannad Orabi and Kais Salman, “2012” explores how some artists have been compelled to address the explosive nature of today’s sociopolitical sphere in a variety of ways, often altering their artistic approaches and/or reoccurring subject matter as they are challenged to represent the manic instability of cities and landscapes that have been overrun by domestic upheavals. As issues of isolation, destruction, strife and the act of witnessing become vehicles for nuanced commentary on the condition of regional politics, these selected works act as visual dispatches of engulfed states. Although known for his startling representations of a materialistic world run amok, Kais Salman’s latest paintings are dominated by newly introduced macabre representations. As Salman’s ubiquitous female subjects stand frozen before the viewer, the ominous tentacles of death consume their grotesque forms. The slow surfacing of this ill-omened presence can be identified from canvas to canvas, with a final work that possesses a ravaged body that is indiscernible from an explosion of blood. Demonstrating a similarly grave transformation of his frequent protagonists, Mohannad Orabi’s carefree, childlike figures now take on adult like features. Gone are the exaggerated details that once defined his androgynous characters. Hallowed eyes are given glimmering pupils that stare coolly at the viewer. Decorated with irony-ridden clown faces in one composition, Orabi’s subjects have adopted a more serious disposition. In two self-portraits in which his image has abandoned its cartoon-like reflection, the artist appears with clearer definition and an added sense of realism, as though everything, including his own being is in clearer focus.
The solemn still-lives of Nihad al Turk utilize a symbolically powerful element of collage as the artist layers newspaper images beneath anthropomorphic representations. Thinly applied paint conceals the contents of these clippings, as his recognizable mythical subjects are depicted with cyclonic markings, evoking a chaotic dimension that lies within the underbelly of a demonic reality. Continuing a series of paintings in which toys and objects of whimsy are positioned in great contrast to an unyielding cruelty that is comprised of acts of torture and moments of betrayal, Oussama Diab’s seemingly pop-inspired paintings are anything but lighthearted. By incorporating a colorful palette, floral patterns and innocuous everyday items, Diab captures a world in which the illusion of normalcy is difficult to maintain. ---Since its founding in 2006, Ayyam Gallery has become one of the Arab world's leading art spaces. With a selection of cutting-edge painting, sculpture and photography that represents some of the Middle East's most exciting talent, the gallery has sought to promote the region's dynamic cultural scene at home and abroad. Group Show at The Third Line | September 21 - October 20, 2011

To begin the fall season, The Third Line invites guest curator Rami Farook to continue aconversation about the state of the world today. Comprising of works from The Third Line, Trafficand The Farook Collection and exhibiting at the two spaces, the show attempts to question anddiscuss the state of the contemporary environment through artistic representations depictingsocial behavior, ecology and psychology.
THE STATE: SOCIAL / ANTISOCIAL? is inspired by and, a continuation from, previous shows at Trafficalso titled ‘the state’. This exhibition resumes a dialogue explored earlier in shows held at Traffic: THESTATE (2010), the inaugural exhibition, questioned the socio-political state post September 11; andTHE STATE: UPPERS DOWNERS (2011) ran a commentary on the global condition, from an economicperspective, with the city of Dubai as a focal point. This third installment of investigation combinesworks from the collection of The Third Line, Traffic and The Farook Collection, and is exhibited at bothgalleries to connect the conversations previously limited to one physical space.
This exhibition aims to move beyond mere presentation and aspires to act as a forum on socializationand the current state of people and behavior. It also complements the launch of its online counterpartwww.thestate.ae. With a focus on the various social aspects of the current “state” of today, the showputs a mirror up to the face of society for self-observation and self-reflection through the subjects ofthe works themselves, as well as the social, psychological and emotional impact on the viewers. The works featured at both venues examine the social and human condition by posing questions abouthow society operates. Artists such as Arwa Abouon and Slavs and Tatars question belief in faith, tradition, and ritual; Fouad Elkoury, Hassan Hajjaj, Ahmed Mater, Hesam Rahmanian document theeveryday in all its glory; Tracey Emin, Susan Hefuna, Damien Hirst, Huda Lutfi, Youssef Nabil andAkram Zaatari depict emotional expression, nostalgia, and memory; and James Clar, AbdulnasserGharem and Aman Mojadidi address the aspect of the anti-social.
THE STATE: SOCIAL / ANTISOCIAL? takes the viewer on a journey of self discovery with the artworks atits starting point, contemplation as its road, and self revelation as its ultimate destination - definingsociety as individuals and as a collective.
