The events industry of Dubai is booming. With event companies focusing on entertainments
and business driven events it is falling more in line with the Dubai Tourism
and Business culture. This week we sat down with Rachel Greenwood and got an
insight on the events industry.
How long you been in Dubai?
I moved to Dubai in September 2007, though I’ve organized conference here since 2005.
Where you from originally?
I’m from sunny North Yorkshire in the UK.
What is your role at Eighteen 7 Events?
I own and run Eighteen7 Events.
When is Eighteen 7 Events established?
Eighteen7 Events was established last summer.
What kind of events does Eighteen 7 Events organize?
Eighteen7 Events organizes anything our clients want us to work on. We can manage an entire project from the initial ideas, sourcing and liaising with suppliers, venues, managing budgets and trouble shooting. We also do event consultancy work for corporate clients, looking at budgets and how they would be best spent, or advising on a new event coming to Dubai. Our other services include corporate entertainment, particularly sports and team building/staff incentive events.
How did you first get interested in the events industry?
I was working part-time in a small publishing firm in the UK who won a contract with the Law Society of England & Wales to run one of their annual conferences, the firm had nobody to take the job on so I said I’d do it. It was a Probate conference, so I figured if I enjoyed putting that together I’d pretty much enjoy any event!
What do you think, the future of event and entertainment business in the region?
I think the future is very exciting for events here, though I hope that the planners of “Super Venues” like the Dubai Trade Centre Jebel Ali listen to event professionals when designing the complex, and focus on logistics and usability.

We source entertainment for our events, we don’t have any performers or entertainers on our books.
