The busy trading metropolis that is Dubai still takes time out to observe the fasting month of Ramadan. Obviously, all consumption for pleasure, including food and drink, is prohibited between dawn and dusk but after 30 days the city celebrates and feast for the Eid Celebration.
Muslim are obliged to adhere to these strictures, eating only during the hours of darkness,
and visitors are advised to observe them too as it is considered offensive to break them in public.
When the new moon is sighted in the sky a festival begins. Women decorate their hands with henna patterns, gifts are exchanged and there is dancing and merriment.
Please note that the end of Ramadan is dependent on the sighting of the moon, not on the astronomical beginning of it, so dates may vary.
