A prominent fashion designer of Italian origin, and current chief designer and vice president of the Versace Group, Donatella grew up under two major fashion influences, her mother who worked as a dressmaker and her older brother Gianni Versace, a renowned designer.
Donatella’s debut into the fashion industry started in the 1970s when she joined her brother’s company as a fashion adviser, where she played a great role in coordinating fashion shows and advertising campaigns. Later she became one of the designers and after her brother was murdered she was made creative designer of the company. Since then, the company has remained at the helm of the fashion industry and has done various collaborations with other designers to diversify the product lines to home goods, perfumes, furniture, and clothing. Donatella currently owns 20 percent of the company’s stock market assets and is believed to be the first to use notable celebrities to advertise her clothing.

Donna ventured into the fashion world at a very tender age, influenced by her model mother and designer father. By the time she turned fourteen, she had already dropped out of school to sell clothes in one of the local boutiques in New York. She later enrolled in a school of design in New York City, where she landed a prestigious job with Anne Klein. Within two years she was made associate designer and when Anne Klein died in the 1970s she was promoted to become head designer.
Ten years later she left the company to start her own business, which has remained top in the fashion industry to date. She is popularly known for her Essentials line of products which includes pieces that can be mixed and matched to create an integrated wardrobe.
Coco Chanel – The founder of Chanel
Coco Chanel was a French fashion designer who founded the Chanel brand. She was famously known for her determination and energy, as she always packaged and marketed her own designs and is the only fashion designer who has been listed among the top 100 most influential people of the 20th century. Her influence extended beyond clothing as she also ventured in handbags, jewelry and perfumes.
Channel’s inspiration emanated from the challenges she faced during her impoverished childhood. She was determined to change her lifestyle and started by singing in concerts, where she acquired the name coco, then as a milliner. In 1913, she opened her first shop in Paris, followed by another one in Deauville.
Most of her clothes were made of jersey and thus were regarded as unique. Her designs flourished during the second world war since jersey was considered the war uniform. Since then, her designs have remained at the center of the fashion industry, and after her death in the 1970s, Karl Lagerfeld took over the company. Some of Coco’s suits and handbags are still highly regarded by people of younger ages.
